Located in an enchanting, reserved and panoramic position in Scala, a short distance from Amalfi and the beaches of Castiglione, Atrani and Marina Grande, the Bed and Breakfast Dint’a Torre is in Via Valle delle Ferriere, 52 in the hamlet of Pontone.
The ancient residence is on three floors, with parking on the ground floor and two flights of stairs to climb (about 30 comfortable steps) to the third floor where the rooms are located.
The Village of Pontone, between history and beauty
The village of Pontone extends just above the town of Amalfi, along a path that climbs through the Mediterranean maquis. A flight of steps connects the two villages and offers numerous panoramic views of Amalfi: the red roofs of the old town, dominated by the imposing bell tower of the cathedral of Sant’Andrea and trapped between the brown rocky walls of the surrounding mountains, stand out against the blue backdrop of the sea that seems to be at one with the sky.
The Scalese district of Pontone is the oldest of the families that formed the town of Scala at the end of the 11th century, ‘brother’ town of nearby Ravello and the oldest on the Amalfi Coast. Pontone, seen from below along the narrow streets leading to Ravello, looks like an ancient medieval village with the dwellings, scattered in small groups amidst the flourishing vegetation of gardens and terraces, overlooked by the bell towers of the three ancient churches.
The dwellings, ancient noble residences, have a typical ‘cluster’ formation, along which wind the winding streets with names rich in history (Via Fritto, Via Grotte, today’s Via Valle delle Ferriere, Via Casa Verone, Via Tuoro).
